Jim Misloski, our state missions director here for Colorado Baptists, brought a great illustration in regards to how churches think and function.
You have the frog churches. As frogs sit on their lilypad and wait for the flies to come by, we sit in our churches and wait for people to walk in the doors. It’s about exclusively doing church correctly, having it ‘just so’—and if people want to come, they are by all means welcomed.
Then you have the lizard churches. As lizards go out and get their flies, so these churches are unleashed and invest in the community and the neighbors around them. Yes, they have their homes in order, but they don’t stay there. They go!
May God lead me and give us a contagious vision to be a lizard church!
